Muslims must maintain the spirit of oneness shown during the Ramadan period, Mrs. Lucy Awuni, Deputy Upper East Regional Minister, said at Bolgatanga to mark the end of the month-long fasting.
She said any Muslim, who sincerely fasted, was inspired with the spirit of social belonging, unity, brotherhood and equality before God.
Mrs Awuni observed that such lessons of purity derived from the month-long fasting, which is a pillar in Islam, was not only beneficial to the Muslim community but also the entire nation.
She made the call when she addressed Islamic faithful at the Jubilee Park in Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region on Wednesday during the Eid-Ul-Fitr prayers to climax the fasting. About one thousand Muslims faithful converged to perform the prayers.
The Deputy Minster expressed the hope that lessons learnt during the month of fast would guide and intensify relations with other religious sects in the coming years.
Most Reverend Alfred Agyenta, Bishop of Navrongo-Bolgatanga Catholic Diocese, sent goodwill message on behalf of the Church.
Jean-Louis Cardinal Tauran, President of the Pontifical Council for Inter religious Dialogue also in a message said priority should be given to the spiritual dimension of the human person by Christians and Muslims in the face of challenges of materialism and secularization.
His message also said Muslims and Christians beyond their differences recognized the dignity of the human person with both right and duties, which were reasons why the transmission of the human and moral values to younger generation should be a concern.
It said it was a duty of all to help the youth to discover that there were both good and evil and “that conscience is a sanctuary to be respected and that cultivating that spiritual dimension makes us more responsible, supportive, and more available for the common good”.
Alhaji Yusif Adams, Regional Chief Imam, who led the prayers, in a sermon urged Muslims to maintain the purity even after the Ramadan because living a pure life according to him, was a premium to peace and harmony.
He prayed for the Government, the Regional Minister and the security services and the development of women in the Region.
